Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday – 12th January 2015
The 152nd birthday of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated at Sri Sarada Math, Chikmagalur on 12th January 2015. The day began with Managalarathi and Vedic chanting at 5.00 am. Puja was performed from 7.30 am to 9.00. At 10.00 am, 80 students gathered to celebrate Swamiji’s birthday. Seventh to ninth standard students from three schools and Sarada Math Balamandir students participated in the programme.
The student programme started with meditation and prayer. After the welcome speech, students showed their talents by various performances. Students of Kuvempu Vidyaniketan, English medium School presented a skit on problems of Earth which is polluted by throwing garbage like plastic bottles etc. and how to solve this problem. They also presented a programme on Swamiji as Parivrajaka. Some students took turns and narrated Swamiji’s life from birth to Mahasamadhi. Govt. Higher primary Kannada Medium school students performed a Folk dance of Karnataka. Three of them talked about the life of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swamiji. One Muslim girl recited the 12th chapter of Bhagavad Gita. Govt. Urdu Higher primary School students chanted Quran in Urdu. They also sang patriotic songs in Hindi. Balamandir students gave a programme on sayings of Swamiji’s message to the nation and some incidents of Swamiji’s parivrajaka time. They also sang patriotic songs and gave two classical dance performances. Smt. Vijaya Gopal gave vote of thanks. A total of 160 people including staff, students and devotees took prasad. Two small books & a pen were distributed to all.
